In this 6 week course, you will learn to demonstrate and understand the foundation of the use and basics of the sewing machine. You will also learn to cut a pattern, piece together various types of fabrics to create a complete project that serves a purpose. At the end of the 6 week course, you will leave with your very own BRAND NEW SEWING MACHINE! (participants must complete each class to be eligible to receive the sewing machine). Please review the syllabus so that you are prepared for each class.

Age: 6th grade- adult
Materials — Sewing machine will be provided. In addition,
rotary cutters and cutting board will be available when required during class.
Requirements for students to bring to class: scissors,
various fabrics according to project (as listed below) and a ripper for
removing stitches easily.
Classes will be as follows:
1st Class 11/7 - Introductions.
Meeting your sewing machine, learning the basics on threading, filling a
bobbin, practicing on the speed using the foot pedal and practicing the
different stitches the sewing machine offers.
2 nd Class 11/14 — Simple pillowcase
with a French Seam
Materials needed for this class:
I yard of cotton fabric
1/3 of a yard (13 inch piece) of coordinating fabric 1/6 of a
yard (6 inch piece) of coordinating fabric 3 rd Class 11/21 — Apron
day (half apron/waist apron) with pockets
Materials needed for this class:
I yard of cotton fabric (16x36)
I yard of contrasting cotton fabric for pockets (12x2) and
waistband (5x54)
Sewing thread to coordinate with fabric choices
Iron
4th Class 12/5 - Throw Pillow with piping
Materials needed for this class:
I yard cotton fabric with a print
I package bias tape (choose a coordinating color)
I bag of Poly fill (160z)
Sewing thread to coordinate with color choices
We will seam together a pillowcase, add piping and add fill
to pillow. We will then learn how to seal the open end when filling is
completed. We will use our ZIPPER FOOT for this project!
5 th Class 12/12 - "Quillow" (quilt in a
pillow) Materials needed for this class:
2 yards cotton material (your choice solid or print)
2 yards flannel (coordinate your
colors) h yard cotton coordinating fabric
1 1/2 yards cotton fabric for trim
Thread that will coordinate with your project
Iron
6th Class 12/19 - Tote Bag Materials needed for this class:
I yard solid fabric
I yard printed coordinating fabric
Kam-Snaps (this will be provided)
Sewing thread that will coordinate with your choice of
fabric
