Auditions
are soon for the15th annual MSBOA All-State Middle School Honors Band.
Scripps has been represented in the All-State Band eleven times, involving a
total of 29 students. They had a great experience playing with the very best
in Michigan.
- Application fee is $16.50 This
fee is nonrefundable. Please
inform Mr. Crimmins if you cannot afford the fee.
- You need to prepare a selection
of music that Mr. Crimmins will provide to you after you register. All
students in the state audition on the same music.
- You need to prepare scales,
which are different for each instrument. Mr. Crimmins will provide you
with the scale requirements. You already know most of them.
- You will also need to do some
simple sight reading for the audition. “Sight read” means to play music
you haven’t seen before. You may look it over for a minute first. You can practice sight reading at
www.sightreadingfactory.com.
- Private lessons are helpful to
assist you in preparing your material.
- The auditions are October 26th
and 27th at Walled Lake Northern High School. You will need
to provide your own transportation to the audition.
- You will be making a digital
recording for your audition. A band director/worker will be doing the
recording. A panel of judges will listen to your recording later.
- Your audition schedule will be
posted online in mid-October at www.msboa.org.
- You will find out in late
November if you get into the All-State Band. If you get in, there is a fee of
$60. Please inform Mr. Crimmins if you cannot afford the fee if
selected.
- The All-State Band rehearsals and
performance are at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids on
January 16-18, 2020. Your school
absence will be excused as a school activity, but of course you will
need to make up any work missed. You will need to provide your own
transportation, housing, and parental supervision while you are not in
rehearsal in Grand Rapids.
